Universal LeonardoA Celebration of Leonardo da Vinci's Art,
Science and Technology
Directors: Martin Kemp and Marina Wallace
Various venues, 2006/7
Universal Leonardo is an innovative
project which aims to broaden and deepen our understanding and
appreciation of Leonardo da Vinci. The project coordinates a series of
linked exhibitions, some of which are informed by scientific analysis,
casting fresh light on Leonardo’s work and process. With a strong
commitment to international and cross disciplinary collaboration,
Universal Leonardo works with leading curators, art historians,
academics and scientists throughout Europe to stimulate dialogue and
discovery around the Leonardo legacy. The most intense period of public
activity will be in Summer 2006, when the exhibition programme
begins.
Exhibitions Programme
Providing a radical alternative to the conventional ‘blockbuster’ exhibition, Universal Leonardo taps into the insatiable interest in Leonardo and increasing public mobility, by coordinating a Europe-wide programme of parallel exhibitions. These include Experience, Experiment and Design, an exhibition of drawings and inventions curated by Martin Kemp & Thereza Wells, at the V&A, London, September 2006. Website The Universal Leonardo web site will be a valuable and educational Leonardo resource for both scholarly and public audiences. Through innovative design, the website will take the virtual visitor on a thought provoking journey through the life and works of one of the greatest thinkers of all time. Phase 1 of the site will be soft launched in Autumn 2005. |
